Know more with Feedly

We all use the web to search for valuable information on a daily basis. All too often, it’s easy to get inundated with too many open tabs, then losing track of what you have and haven’t read. To help us keep everything in one place here at The Designery, we use Feedly.

Feedly is a handy little application available for iPhone, Android, Chrome, Firefox and Safari, which compiles and streams blog and news feeds from different online sources, so that all our favourite topics can be found under one ‘roof’.

Whether we’re using our smart phone, tablet or desktop, Feedly automatically syncs to all devices, so we have up to the minute news wherever we go. It’s simple to set up an account, easy to use and we love it.

Whether we are looking for specific project related research, keeping abreast of industry news or simply sourcing our favourite lifestyle blogs, it makes perfect sense to stream all that valuable reading content into one efficient, time saving app.

So, how does it work?

Search for specific content
You can search for your favourite blogs, news sites, podcasts and Youtube channels online by typing in the full website URL or the URL of the RSS feed. Feedly will then find it and show in the search results for you to add to your folder.

Search for topics
If you want to search for a more general topic, type the subject into the search box and Feedly will suggest some sites that have been tagged by other Feedly users, then you can add it to your own dashboard.

Save for later
The bookmark icon is an easy way to save something to read for later. You can go back to these articles at any time by clicking ‘saved for later’.

Organise your content
Feedly makes it easy to organise your content into categories where you can ‘drag and drop’ your feeds into clearly marked folders for each topic.

If you want to start sharing articles, Feedly makes it really straightforward. You just need to choose the platform you wish to share it on i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Evernote, Pinterest or LinkedIn.

Of course, Feedly is not the only news aggregator app available in todays crowded marketplace, but after trialing a few over the years, this is our personal favourite with its simplistic design and visually appealing interface.

Why not try it and let us know how you get on. We don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Good luck!
